Art Journaling for Healing
FAQ
-
Everyone who practices art journaling might define it a bit differently, but the basic idea is creative expression that is focused on process rather than outcome. An art journal can encompass all sorts of mixed media (collage, drawing, writing, painting, etc.) and more. They can be messy, experimental, and, hopefully, playful.
Art journaling can be done in a traditional sketchbook, on stacks of random paper, or, in one of my favorite styles, within an altered book. If you are new to all of this, don’t worry - that’s what this retreat is all about.
We’ll go through different approaches to filling your pages. You might love some and hate some, but all of them are designed to help you let go of an “outcome-driven” mindset and focus on the pleasure of the process of making instead. This is where our intuition and curiosity really come to life.

For our time together, we’ll be seated in chairs with a writing space in front of you so you can comfortably work on your art journal.
When it’s time for our short yoga breaks, you will have the choice to practice from a chair or to stand up. You will not need a mat, however - we will either be standing or seated, but not putting our hands on the floor or lying down.
However, if you want the option to sit on the floor for some time or take a lying-down yoga break, please feel free to bring your mat.

Yes, this event is open to all. Queermunity is a space for LGBTQ+ community as well as for allies, friends, and community members of any orientation!
Since this event is taking place during June (Pride Month), it’s a great time to support this space whether you identify as queer or straight. Part of the cost of your retreat registration directly supports the space, and you might also consider grabbing a coffee at the cafe. The Uptown neighborhood in general will deeply appreciate your patronage as many local businesses struggled during the recent ICE occupation of the Twin Cities.
